The Agony Before the Garden

Recall the last time you had an event approaching that you were really nervous about. It could have been a medical procedure, a speech or presentation, or a difficult exam. When did you first start worrying about that event? Did the anxiety only begin the night before? Someone once said that people put to death have to undergo their execution hundreds of times in their imaginations before the real thing actually happens. Jesus knew he was going to die long before it happened. He predicted his death at least three times in the gospels. The first time was right after he fed the multitudes. How long did he know about his death before he even said anything? So, as we begin to reflect on the passion, let's not forget about when the agony really began. How long was he carrying the weight of the cross within his heart before he actually had to take it upon his shoulders?
