Messages of Hope From A Christian Counselor

Inspirational Blog - uplifting reflections on spiritual and psychological issues. Ideas for the reflections come from my training as a counselor and my religious faith. I am Roman Catholic, so the reflections will be influenced by that perspective. However, I refer to myself as a "Christian" counselor because the religious references in the blog are meant for all Christians, not just Catholics. They focus on the things that we all share in common. The reflections often include stories, some fictional but most true stories from my own life. Unless I am referring to a family member in the stories, I will most likely fictionalize the names of the people involved to respect their privacy.

“Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick: and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.”

[Matthew 5:15]

About the author

I am a full-time Counselor from New Ringgold, Pennsylvania who works remotely from home conducting virtual sessions. I am also an active member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church which I have attended since 1977. In my spare time, I care for stray and adopted cats. One of my childhood nicknames and the name that many extended family members still use to refer to me is "Darcy".

I grew up surrounded by people engaged in creative endeavors. My mother, Marcia Myers, had her own dance studio, and my father, Robert Myers, taught guitar and piano lessons. My brother, Al Myers, is a sculptor who made statues of famous people out of clay. My brother, Robert Jos Myers, taught guitar lessons, and was talented at drawing and writing. With most of my immediate family now deceased, I am fortunate to be nurtured at present by the next generation, my niece, Jeanie Myers Roach and her family, talented at acting and dancing.

My greatest passion in life is creative writing and my favorite thing to write about is my deepest inspiration - my religious faith. I began writing spiritual reflections in 1998 when I belonged to a Catholic Young Adult Group and was responsible for planning activities to close our meetings.

Over the years I made a lot of seasonal cakes for family gatherings but never thought of selling them until client referrals slowed down this summer and I had to think about what I could do for a side hustle. Preparing the cakes and the blog has become so much fun that it no longer is about the money.

Blog Disclaimer

I initially planned to completely avoid the subject of politics in this blog. The blog is supposed to be a source of hope and inspiration for all people, regardless of their religion or political persuasion. It is not supposed to be divisive, and in this day and age, anything you say about politics can be divisive. However, sometimes there are political events that affect all of us. Reacting to those events can sometimes teach us valuable - even beautiful - lessons about life in general. I had to pass on the lessons that I have been learning from dealing with this period in history. That is why several of my blogs make reference to political events. I hope it will be clear that the underlying messages in the blogs are ones that have meaning for all of us, regardless of how you feel about the events that inspired them.
